Lachie

Super Power Baby Project |
Lachie is ready for his photo shoot, and his parents Carey & Alex want to show off his ‘pirate scar’ for the photos. He is learning to sit up so is supported by a simple, yet effective wooden chair. He has a massive beaming smile and a very impressive scar indeed. He had open-heart surgery when he was three months old.
He taught us how strong we can be when we need to be. We are so much stronger now as a family.
Since Lachie was born, we have made some amazing friends and are part of a group of people we never expected to be involved with. It usually takes a long time to build up new friendships, but within this community (the Down syndrome community in Wellington) there is intimacy, knowledge and care for each other that makes friendship easy.
Lachie is happy and excited about life and loves to be involved in everything. He is a delight to care for and makes the job of parenting easy.
We focus on the wonderful things he can do and his amazing personality. In his short life so far, he has had such a positive impact on so many people and has taught them about, and to accept, difference. He is changing people’s perceptions of 'disability' just by being who he is. We just love him to bits.
Lachie’s Super Powers: He is cuddly, snuggly and heart-meltingly cute. He smiles with his entire body and has an infectious laugh. Lachie inspires positive change in people and makes new dreams happen.
