Heidi

She is a joy to have, she is our beautiful child.
A Poem, by Grandma about Heidi
I am a teacher,
I have taught my family wisdom, perspective and what really matters.
How to take time and enjoy the little things.
How to recognise what’s important in life and what’s not.
I taught them patience, adaptation and acceptance.
Joy and enthusiasm.
Tenacity and perseverance.
They didn’t know exactly how much they would love me the day arrived.
I did.
I am a great teacher.
I love the pace of our life with Heidi. She reaches milestones in her own time which means that we don't need to rush on to 'the next thing'. We enjoy and savour each moment and phase, and every milestone she reaches is a cause of celebration.
I initially thought having a child with Down syndrome would be too difficult and that I wouldn't be able to have more children because I would be too busy looking after Heidi, but this is not the case at all. She is an independent, busy little girl, who loves playing and learning. She is normal to us and we live a great, happy, ordinary life.
Heidi’s favourite things in life are: her cat Noodle (who loves her right back), swimming and water in general, lions (in particular their roar), looking at her cheeky self in the mirror, music and dancing.
Heidi’s Super Powers: Heidi is good at eating french toast really fast. She is incredibly flexible and can fold herself in half. Even her stinky morning breath smells beautiful. She is very sociable, happy and loving. She is an excellent teacher.
