Billy
Chromosome 15 Duplication Syndrome

An excerpt from
Super Power Baby Project
He fits into our life perfectly.

Billy’s family are so proud of him and he is such a joy to have in their lives. He inspires them daily by his determination. He is a big part of their community, and loves going to his Early Intervention classes and seeing his therapists.

Above all they want him to experience the best life possible and they don’t wrap him in cotton wool. They let him explore and learn how to overcome his challenges, which he does really well!

Billy makes us better ourselves, gives us perspective and teaches us what is important. People often say “it must be hard,” to which we answer, “having teenage girls is hard!”

Billy is a wonderful child and we want people to see him that way, too. We don’t need pity, there is nothing to be sad about.

Billy loves pumice and as a result has the most beautifully soft hands. He gets fixated on tactile things and really gets to know an object inside and out. He finds such joy in the often-overlooked mysteries of simple things.

Watching him play with his latest favourite piece of pumice was really calming. He twists and turns it, holds it right up to his face and acknowledges each crevice.

Billy is also adventurous – as soon as he discovered walking, he was climbing, straight up onto the piano. He loves music and dancing.

Billy’s Super Powers: Billy has the power to enthral  people and capture their hearts, draw people in. He holds your hand, holds your face close, and looks at your soul. He trusts people and has no anxiety. Billy has a talent for separating the ingredients in his food by keeping them in his mouth for ages. He helps us celebrate everything and has taught us to appreciate the small things, which in turn makes our lives bigger and fuller.
